On a shiny Sunday, I joined a group of painter to do sketches in Mt. Merapi. I end up drawing a model instead of the enormous burned mountain. It was because that it’s just difficult to decide a specific object among the great nature.

There she is, an incredible lady named Kartika, told me that it is okey not to draw the mountains. She was joking and said, “What is a camera for then?”

Then she explained me that people has different uniqueness and interests. Her, for instance, like to draw or paint objects which has a character. Such as: human or animal. In drawing, you’re asked to observe your object closely. And by doing so, you’ll be able to put it into beautiful sketches. During your close attention, you’ll notice that there are characters shown on the objects.

This is the beauty of art. It teaches me to pay a little more attention to what’s going on in life. I might not have a clear judgment and interpretation toward something before I take a close look at it.
